Frequently Asked Questions

How Can I get on a trip?

If you’re new to the club, the best thing to do is come down to the Lock Climbing wall on either a Tuesday or Thursday night or have a look on our Facebook Group site.

What experience do I need?

The Herts and Essex climbing club does not provide any formal training. To go away with us you do not need to be an expert climber but you do need to be able to belay safely and have the appropriate equipment.  Please see list below of basic equipment needed.

Don’t worry if you don’t have everything, the club does have a selection of equipment you can borrow.  It is on a First-come, first-served basis, please speak to our kit manager for further information.  If you need any guidance on purchasing kit club members can help you with this.

What equipment do I need to go away with you?

This is a guide as to what you will need;

  • climbing shoes
  • harness
  • helmet
  • screwgate carabiner
  • Large HMS type is ideal
  • belay device
  • waterproof jacket
  • approach shoes
  • outdoors trousers
  • fleece
  • rucksack
  • Head-torch.
  • Food

Ideally, you should also have a nut key, an additional screwgate and 2 prussics.
